I see you over there, eyeing that girls Monroe stud, biting your lip, your mind going 80 miles an hour behind your apprehensive eyes. With trepidation, you tap the stranger on the shoulder and say, ‘That is so cute! Did it hurt!’ The badass, beautiful girl with the metal sticking out of her face smiles and chirps, ‘No, not at all!’ and you smile politely back, scoffing on the inside.
Pft. Didn’t hurt?. Please. It’s a damned needle in your face.
If you have a deep-seeded fear of needles, it’s often hard to even comprehend what it would be like to have something like a facial piercing done. Even with piercings that have very few nerve endings in the area, you may not be able to get your head around the idea that it isn’t head-splitting, gut-wrenching pain.
I get it. Our fears, though irrational, feel very real to us, and the anxiety that comes with being afraid of needles and wanting piercings is enough to split you in two. You want to feel at home in your own skin, but you can’t shake the impossible feeling you get when you think about sitting in that cold leather chair in the tattoo parlor with a piercer looming over you.
By all means, attempt to conquer your fear – ultimately we’re only as great as the things we overcome, and if you can beat this fear, you’ll feel like a goddammed warrior, I guarantee it.
If you can’t win though – if you’re just not ready to beat the odds yet – then it’s time to start shopping non-pierced, fake jewelry. Just because you’re trypanophobic, doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy body jewelry.
Here you go my little bunnies – a whole smattering of fake, clip on body jewelry, and where to get it:
If there’s one piercing I wouldn’t mind having a fakey for, it’s a nipple piercing. I mean just ouch. Fear of needles or no, nipple piercings are enough to make even the toughest cringe. Luckily, there is a TON of fake clip on jewelry for nipple piercings out there, and it is some seriously cute stuff.
Septums by and large, don’t really hurt to get pierced – the needle goes right through the space between cartilage and never endings, and there’s almost no pain at all. I know I never felt mine.
But regardless, being trypanophobic is about more than pain, and it’s still a needle going into your face. Luckily, there’s almost as much fake clip on septum jewelry as there is the real thing!
This is just the tip of the iceberg – check out the rest of our fake septum jewelry here.
This is something I’m considering getting myself, just to gauge how my kid takes to mommy having a new facial piercing – I’d rather him rip it off of my face than rip it out.
These pieces of jewelry also double as cartilage cuffs. It’s all the same concept, just a loop that closes around a thick, but flexible part of your anatomy. These are also a great way to try on a piercing look, without committing to the 4-10 weeks of healing.
Fake nose rings remind me of paperclips, because they kind of stay on in the same way. They’re incredibly easy to put on, just sliding over your nostril, and add an adorable little pop of bling to your button.
Itching for a nose ring? Try one on for size – browse our clip on nose rings here.
In my experience, cartilage doesn’t hurt at all to get pierced, but during the healing process, you can get pretty sore. If you’re not up for sleeping on one side of your head just yet, fake cartilage cuffs are everywhere, and are so stinking cute.
I barely scratched the surface with cartilage jewelry – you need to see more. Check out all of the fake cartilage jewelry we have in stock here.
I know you’re scared, and don’t worry, I’m not here to call you a chicken or poke fun at your fears, because they’re legitmate, and regardless of the actual risk, I know they feel real to you. One thing I won’t stand for though is letting fear stop me from doing something I want, and neither should you.
You don’t have to go under latex gloves and a sterile needly to get the pierced look, so start browsing piercing looks on Instagram and Pinterest, and decide who you want to be next week.
