2017 has definitely been one for the books. There have been many changes, challenges, and upgrades. One of the positive elements it brought about was a boost in body jewelry and piercing trends. I definitely jumped on the septum ring bandwagon in 2016, but it was awesome to see people who might not want to commit to a full on septum piercing begin trying out the faux septum rings. Body jewelry is one of those incredible things that sets us apart but also brings us together. Our piercings will not be exactly the same as the next person’s. And our taste in body jewelry won’t be the same, either. But the creativity we share and the enthusiasm for body mods is mutual. Even if it’s at different levels!
The body jewelry scene has been lit this year. Clickers are multi-functional, nose hoops are becoming more creative, and plugs are more awesome than ever before. Here are just a few different body jewelry trends we’ve been seriously checking out.
Hinged segment rings can be used for multiple piercing types depending on the gauge, length, and overall design of the piece. Traditionally, segments can be used for septum, nipple, eyebrow, lip, cartilage, tragus, daith, rook. If it has any kind of charm or dangling embellishment, it would typically work best in a straight-facing piercing (such as a septum or nipple piercing) and not a side-facing piercing (like nostril, eyebrow, etc).
Rather than wearing a completely circular hoop, there are now a myriad of elegant designs that add a little more style to your nostril piercing. Faux nose hoops are either inserted from the inside-out or from the outside-in, depending on their design.
There are many stones which are naturally beautiful. Trying to capture some of that beauty and inserting it into fashion, stone plugs were born. There are also a lot of awesome meanings behind different kinds of stones. For instance, pure quartz is considered the master healer amongst the stones. Sodalite is thought to help increase one’s wisdom and logic. I really need to get some of these stones in my life…
Here are some of the latest stone plugs we added in 2017:
Plugs have been getting a lot of attention. And about time! For a while, people with plugs weren’t well recognised in the fashion world except for alternative/goth or hippie/boho style. Now, it doesn’t matter who you are or what you look like. Plugs have finally hit mainstream. With it, some alterations have been made to the standard plug. Now, there are danglers and hangers. Dangling plugs fit inside your stretched lobes and can create quite the statement. Tunnel Hoops work by linking through your tunnels and hanging down.
I love that septum rings are such a thing right now. There are so many cute clickers and captive rings out there, it makes me super happy that I can use any of them. I am really biased about this trend, but I think it’s a very awesome fashion statement. It’s right in the front of your face and is one of the first things people will notice about you. Can’t get much more daring than that!
For those of you who have yet to commit to getting your septum pierced or your profession doesn’t give you the option of using a septum retainer, there’s the fashionable alternative of faux septum rings.
We have really seen the rook piercing trend really quick off in 2017 and finally, we saw some really cute embellished curved barbell designs that go great with any rook piercing. Check out a few of our favorites below:
There have been a lot more ear piercings gaining popularity this year. There have also been some facial piercings continuing to make the rounds. Here’s some of the top body trends of 2017.

Clickers are no longer just for septums, guys. The daith piercing is just one more piercing that can totally rock a clicker.

The rook piercing is an innovative new piercing that we have seriously been loving. Short, curved barbells look best in this piercing.

The philtrum — also known as a Medusa — is quickly becoming popular. Labrets fit snugly in this small area above the mouth, and there are tons of cute styles from which to choose!

Double-nostril piercings are symmetrical and sensational. Some even opt for getting two piercings in one nostril. Not into that look? You can always fake it.

The only downside to getting a tragus is that you’ll have to stop using earphones for a while. Invest in getting a comfy set of over-the-ear headphones for optimal comfort. But once your tragus heals up, you will be left with a fabulous piercing.
