Let’s face it. You’ve been watching Walking Dead a lot lately and it has crossed your mind about what WOULD actually happen if there was a zombie apocalypse. Here are some key points to help you survive the impending epidemic.
Good physical shape: You do not know if they are going to be runners or slow-moving. Amazing cardio endurance, muscles, and flexibility will guarantee that you can out run and out maneuver ever the fastest of the zombies.
Necessary supplies: Can opener, pocket knife, backpack, storage bags, copious amounts of non-perishable foods and clean water, medical supplies, weapons (see below), condoms, a radio, ropes, gasoline, zombie belly rings, and some cool acrylic plugs so you look great when you are fighting the good fight.
Weapons: Guns are preferable, as you can kill long range without the potential of contamination. Semi-automatic are preferable to automatic weapons since you can ration your ammunition. Other alternatives are bows and arrows, shovels, axes, and all sorts of medieval weapons you hope to only see in museums.
Safe place to stay: If you’re planning ahead, a fortress is ideal. Preferably in a rural area, you can avoid the mass of people who will surely become zombie chow. You’ll need high walls, no windows, sound-proofing, a security system (advanced and homemade to cover all your bases), and an escape exit. An underground stronghold is even better. In a pinch, a big-box hardware store will work. Lots of weapons, raw materials, and the potential for as many Snickers bars and Mountain Dew as you’d like.
Above all, planning is the key. If you know what you’re up against and prepared, your chances of surviving are infinitely better.
Side note: The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks is an essential read.
