The Little Black Dress – where would we be without it, eh? Every girl’s fashion staple, the LBD has always been the favorite for any occasion, from decorous office party to wild night out with the girls. Let’s face it – it’s the only thing we’re always sure we look fabulous in.
The LBD is undergoing a reinvention of sorts in 2011. Sure, it’s still going to be flattering, fashionable and reasonably form-fitting, but there are all kinds of trends out there that are making their mark on this wardrobe staple. The result: swoon-worthy styles that are guaranteed to set the room on fire – wherever you wear it. Here are five that you won’t want to live without.
Lace is HUGE this season, and all the designers have sent sheer creations down the runways for winter 2011. Though it’s not traditionally a cold-weather fabric choice (hello?? we’re freezing here!) lace is undeniably sexy and classy at the same time. Shelli Segal has come out with some gorgeous little lace numbers, including this scoop-neck style which is a modern take on the classic LBD and is formal enough for dinner and drinks.
Not one for the shy, retiring type, the bodycon bandage dress screams for attention. Though bodycon has been a hot trend since 2009, this silhouette is still going strong. Take it into the New Year with a quirky twist, like a one-shouldered diagonal strap, twisted detailing, or contrast mesh inserts. Pair with sky-high heels for a super-glam look or a biker jacket to show off your attitude!
Silver studs are on everything this winter, from shoes and bags to hats and wallets. Designers have taken this trend to the extreme, covering entire outfits in these shiny little studs – to fabulous effect. Roberto Cavalli has created a slim-fitting, straight dress in luxurious cashmere and wool featuring hundreds of punky studs that hits this trend right on the nose. This dress is perfect for the party girl/rocker chick and looks good with bare legs and booties or leather leggings.
No party season is complete without the requisite sequined dress, and this year is no exception. Sequins and black always look good together, but this winter the prom dress look is making a comeback and stores are showing off pretty, girly ensembles with frills and flounces a-plenty. Treat yourself to a flirty organza dress with a sequined bodice and add a cropped cardi and ballet flats for the ultimate glam fashionista look.
Pull out all the stops in a figure-hugging corset dress that shows off your curves to their best advantage. 2011 will see the return of corset dresses, saucy and funky and oh-so-desirable. How could you resist this beautiful Bebe dress with corset-like ties and grommet accents all down the front and back? It’s an edgy, dark look with masses of sex-appeal and attitude to boot. Perfect for the rebel in you…
