There is something about adorning oneself with piercings that can become addictive, from jewelry¬†to shoes, and even tattoos. I think it has to do with adding that little extra touch that either gives you individuality, shows personality or frankly, just looks great! On a physiological level the addictive nature all stems from the same thing. When you shop, or get a piercing or tattoo, natural endorphins or feel good chemicals are released into your body, and because it makes us happy—we keep going back for more.

What I like about piercings is that while there are only so many places on your body you can pierce, originality and style abound with what you do with those piercings. Now if you choose to get the hanging ball in the back of your throat pierced, like a friend of mine did, there is only so much you can do with that! But most other visible piercings can have life all their own. Stretch them and move to a different gauge. Switch jewelry regularly to match your mood or event. This is one thing I am happily “addicted” to.
